Lhakpa is a Nepalese Sherpa mountain climber. In 2000, she became the first Nepali woman to climb and descend Everest successfully. On May 12, 2022, she made a record setting 10th summit of Everest, the most by any woman in the world. In 2023, Netflix released MOUNTAIN QUEEN: The Summits of Lhakpa Sherpa, a biographical feature that traced her story as a single mom working at a Connecticut Whole Foods to her return to Everest to make a better life for her daughters. We are very excited to welcome her to MIT's campus to share her stories and experiences.
