From groundbreaking research to making their labs more sustainable, learn how MIT faculty are taking part in climate action on campus and beyond.

How can MIT faculty get involved?

Our team works collaboratively with several faculty and researchers at MIT. Faculty work directly supports the many campus sustainability projects we focus on. We are always eager to connect with faculty about potential working groups, faculty fellow positions, research opportunities, and other partnerships. Become a Campus Climate Action Ambassador

This program seeks to equip members of the MIT community to champion climate action and sustainable practices within their department, lab, center, or institute (DLCI), increasing visibility and fostering a culture of sustainability across campus.

Program requirements:

  1. Participate in an MIT Climate Action Workshop [include a link to request a workshop]
  2. Complete the Responsible Waste Training in Atlas
  3. Sign up and start using MIT’s Rheaply marketplace for reuse
  4. Integrate climate action goal(s) in Goal Setting and Performance Review Process
  5. Lead climate action initiative(s) in your DLCI
Create a sustainability plan for your DLC

MIT’s departments, labs, and centers (DLCs) are taking meaningful action on climate and sustainability by developing and implementing their own carbon footprint reduction and sustainability plans. 

These resources offer guidance and a framework for units at early stages in the planning process to help identify goals, strategies, and actions aligned with MIT’s commitments and paths to achieving them.

Join the MIT Working Green Committee

MIT Working Green Committee is to develop and deliver programs that educate administrative and support staff about sustainability with a focus on recycling, reducing, and reusing goods. 

Join another community group
  • The MIT Food and Agriculture Club (FAC) brings together students and other MIT community members to coordinate and support work in the areas of food and agriculture.
  • MIT Water brings together creative, passionate, and motivated individuals to explore ways by which research, innovation, and policy can help solve the most pressing challenges in the water sector.
  • The MIT Outing Club (MITOC) is dedicated to helping the MIT and Cambridge community enjoy the great outdoors.
