Climate resiliency and adaptation roadmap
This Roadmap introduces four Goals containing 18 strategies that will enable the MIT campus to continue to fulfill its mission amidst disruption from climate-driven hazards such as extreme precipitation, sea level rise with storm surge; and excessive and prolonged heat risks; risks which are becoming more frequent and extreme in a changing climate. This Roadmap builds on MIT’s climate resiliency and adaptation progress since 2015 and draws from current best available science and practice for informing a five (5) year (2025-2029) Roadmap.

This roadmap is intended to be revised and updated as MIT’s understanding of the impact of a changing climate and how to adapt evolves. Re-evaluation will also enable continued resilience based on the effectiveness of adaptation strategies; community capacities; technological advances; and progression of implementation plans. This figure (below) diagrams the iterative process of Roadmap re-evaluation that can enable most strategic and impactful outcomes.
Watch: What is a climate resilient MIT?
MIT strives to be a community that continues to fulfill the mission of the Institute and thrives in the face of disruptions from intensifying climate risks, including more frequent and extreme flooding and heat.
