About the Sessions:

11:00 - 11:45 am | Chickens & Eggs with Chestnut Farms

Chestnut Farms, located in Hardwich, MA, will bring two full size chickens for your kiddos to meet. We'll talk about chicken coops, what chickens eat, how they're cared for on the farm. We'll ask for volunteers to do an egg experiment to demonstrate how you can tell the difference between fresh and old eggs. And we'll answer all your questions about egg labeling and sourcing.

Format: Educatonal demonstration + live animals

12:15 - 1:00 pm | Greens, Beets & Sunflowers with Siena Farms

Siena Farms, located in Sudbury and Concord, MA, will bring their freshest spring harvest to teach you new veggie recipes! In a hands-on cooking lesson, Jen from Siena Farm will teach you how to make a massaged kale salad with lunchbox peppers, plus how to quick-pickle seasonal beats. You'll get your hands in some fresh-picked greens, plus get to eat what you make! You'll also learn about sunflowers and all the different uses of this beautiful summer favorite.

Format: 2 hands-on activities + educational demonstration

1:30 - 2:15 pm | Make Veggie Creatures with Stillman's Farm

Stillman's Farm, located in Lunenburg, invites your kiddos to learn to love their veggies--by playing with their food! Come join us in making veggie creatures - fish, monsters & bugs - using local produce from the farm, all the while learning tid bits about their nutritional value and growing practices. It's more than a feast for the eyes; these artistic creations are deliciously edible!

Format: Hands-on activity + educational demonstration

2:45-3:00 pm | Giant Pumpkin Seeds & Apples with Red Apple Farm

It's always pumpkin and apple season at Red Apple Farm! In June, the farmer will be planting giant pumpkin seeds so they can be harvested in the fall. You'll get to plant your own giant pumpkin seeds in a dirt ball to plant in your own backyard. Plus we'll talk about how apples are preserved all year round using special technology that freezes time and keeps them fresh. Enjoy a crispy apple and sunflower seed butter snack while you learn!
